2017, multimedia installation using 16mm film, egg beater, rolling pin, iron, ironing board, clothes basket, plastic cleaning bottles, laundry line, sheets, clothing, cardboard, film projectors, digital projector, sound
created by Cheryl Hamilton, Rose Casella & lisa g
using 16mm found footage and so-called women’s objects we created three precarious sculptural installations about the woman’s 'place' circa 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s in the home, work and sport.
the laundry basket (atop the ironing board) disguises the projector which bounces the 9 to 5 video loop off of the highly polished iron and onto the wall.
9 to 5 addressed limited work options for women
white painted cleaning products receive the projected Sinking Feeling loop beneath the sink.
Sinking Feeling considered the need for medication in order to fulfil gendered obligations within the home
the egg beater helps guide the film for the Sinking Feeling projected loop (the film made the egg beater spin).
the rolling pin provides needed tension for the film for the Sinking Feeling projected loop.
the flowing laundry line is a projection surface for the Playing House installation.
the cardboard reels have the longer loop laced through them.
the reels are made from products such as Tampax, Hamburger Helper and Fruit Loops.
Playing House smashed the limitation of domestic duties re-editing volleyball footage and sound
